Musing Mondays (4)

Hello Readers,
This is my fourth week involved in the weekly blogging meme Musing Mondays, hosted by Should Be Reading.  This week's musing asks:

Do you judge a book by its cover?

The simple answer, yes!

The extended answer: Sort of. I look at the title, if the title caught my eye, then I'll look at the book. If the cover looks good, then I'll immediately look at the inside cover/summary online. If the summary and the cover and the title catch my eye, then I'll immediately want to read it.

If the cover doesn't catch my eye, I'll still read the summary, but with less enthusiasm. I will then proceed to look back at the cover and then the summary again. I will be less excited to read the book and probably won't immediately want to read it. I'll mark it internally, and move on.

The reason for this is because there are certain types of book covers I know will be certain genres. For example, I love Christian fiction. I can usually peg whether or not a book is going to be in this genre or not, just by looking at the cover.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The cover offers a lot of insight into the novel. That's partly why I think covers are so important.

What about you guys? Do you judge a book by its cover? How important do you think the cover is?

As always feel free to leave your Musing Mondays link in the comments.

Love,
Danica Page
