Blog Tour/Book Review/Giveaway: The Doorknob Society by M J Fletcher

Hello Readers,

Today I'm pleased to be part of the M.J. Fletcher blog tour set up by Reading Addiction Blog Tours. I'll be posting my review of his novel The Doorknob Society as well as offering a giveaway of this book.

Before I get into my review, here's some information about the author:

MJ Fletcher is the creator of the comic book series Adam Zero: The Last Man of Earth published by Ronin Studios. He's also been published in Hope: The Hero Initiative and Digital Webbing Presents. The Doorknob Society series is his fist book series and he's thrilled about it. He lives near the beach with his wife, daughter, dog, and a crotchety cat.

And now here's the synopsis of the novel:

Chloe Masters’s world changes in a heartbeat and all she did was touch a doorknob.

When she was young Chloe’s mother vanished. Wracked by feelings of abandonment and anger she lost herself traveling with her father’s magic act, where illusions were part of her everyday life. Yet everything changes when they are pursued by a mysterious man in black out to kill her father. Touching a doorknob activates abilities she never knew she had and she finds herself thrust into a world of ancient societies and secrets.

When her father disappears it is a race against time to find answers before she loses whats left of her family. Now Chloe must choose who to trust, the man who will do anything for her or the one she can’t stop thinking about.

Finally here's my review.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an electronic copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion as part of the blog tour. I did not receive any compensation for this review nor was I obligated to write a good review. The blog tour host may have received compensation for setting up the tour however.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I went into this novel with fairly low expectations. I expected to enjoy the novel but that was about it. Nothing could have prepared me to be blown away.

At first this novel reminded me of Harry Potter which isn't necessarily a good thing. Harry Potter knock-offs drive me batty. However, despite the similarities to Harry Potter, this novel was very different and compelling in its own right.

The characters drew me in from the very beginning. All of Fletcher's characters were masterfully crafted. The main characters, Chloe, James, Michael, Jess, and Edgar all drew me in from the get-go, but even the minor characters were brilliantly portrayed in this novel.

I loved the way that Fletcher developed his story and how well it was written. There were some minor errors but on the whole this novel was incredibly written and a joy to read.

Plus, there's a love triangle brewing....and I love love triangles. I'll definitely keep reading just because of that alone. :)

But even if there wasn't the love triangle, I would have to keep reading this series. I've already mentioned this, but let me restate what I've said earlier. The prose was beautiful and masterfully crafted, the characters were compelling, and the plot line was intriguing and drew me in from the beginning.

This is a great start to a series that I will definitely be keeping tabs on.

In Summary: It's been awhile since I've read a fantasy novel that drew me in so completely. From the very first page to the very last page, I was hooked. Brilliantly crafted and thoroughly entertaining. Fletcher has created a novel bound to intrigue all who read it.

The Wrap-up: This book truly was a pleasure to read and I'm so thankful I've had the opportunity to read it. (Note: I'm loving the wonderful self-published fiction I get to review as part of blog tours/author requests. It has allowed me to discover some true talent when it comes to writing.)

This novel was incredible and I can't wait to read the sequel.

And now here's your chance to win a e-copy of this book. Good luck!
