And now here's the synopsis:
American-born Robyn Matthers is going home. With her dad in hospital, his roadhouse in ruins and the ice hockey team slipping down the league, she needs to take charge. But does she have the strength to do it?
Cole Ryan is a hockey player on a personal mission. He’s tall, dark, hot and Robyn’s noticed! But can she trust her feelings - or his? And what will Cole do when he finds out the truth about her?
Robyn returns to Michigan and things aren’t quite the same. Her best friend has grown up and is thinking about marriage and babies, the ice hockey team is no longer the life blood of the community and her father is engaged!
When Robyn’s twin cousins drag up past events that hold painful memories for her, she and Cole are forced together. But are either of them ready to start something new?
And now for my review.
My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Disclaimers: I received an electronic copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion as part of the blog tour. I was not obligated to write a good review and received no compensation for writing this review.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I went into this book with no expectations. It had been awhile since I had read the synopsis and honestly I had forgotten what this book was about.
I was intrigued and delighted to find that I enjoyed reading this book. Robyn was a feisty character who was unwilling to put up with anybody's crap. She had a tough exterior and she was willing to stand her ground. However, underneath Robyn is nursing old wounds and isn't as tough as she appears. A relationship really is the last thing she needs or wants.
Cole, like Robyn, has a lot of baggage and has endured a lot. He is furious with his brother and is not looking for a relationship. The chemistry between Robyn and Cole was undeniable and I loved watching it progress.
Robyn chose to tackle some difficult situations in her novel. I always love when authors choose to do this. It added a depth to the story that I personally loved.
Baggot very convincingly developed their love story but it all happened so quickly and I would have liked to see it drawn out longer. However, Baggot did a great job and the fast courtship actually might have actually worked in this situation.
The novel was quick and enjoyable read. So why 3.5 stars? I found the plot slightly predictable at times, but really it was still a great read. It just lacked that extra something to kick it up to 4 stars.
Warnings/Side-notes: I don't want to give anything away. So I'll just say that this novel has several sexual references, some strong language, and lots of drinking.
The Wrap-up: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were intriguing and Baggot was a great writer. Definitely an author I'll be keeping my eyes on.
And now here's your chance to win a copy of this book. Good luck!
