Hot Releases: August 2013

Hello Readers,

I've now been in Italy for four months now and am loving it. I'm beginning to get really behind in what popular books have come out recently. :( But I'm still loving the work.

New Releases I'm Dying to Read:

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorenson- I absolutely adored the first book in the series and have been dying to read this one. I was so bummed to learn it came out after I left. Callie and Kayden are both going to have to grow up a lot in this novel and I can't wait to see it happen.

Gated by Amy Christine Parker-It just sounds intriguing and I'm curious to see if it lives up to my expectations. Plus, that cover definitely is eye-catching. Yes, I know we shouldn't judge based on a cover, but come on most of us do.

The Liberator by Victoria Scott- The first in the series The Collector was one of the last books I read before I left and I actually really liked it. Can't wait to see what this one brings.

Did any of you read any of these? Would you recommend reading them?

What were your favorite books of the month? What books do I absolutely need to read?

Happy Reading!

Love,

Danica Page

Early Teenage Favorite: Mandy by Julie Edwards

Hello Fellow Page-Turners,

Since I am still in Italy serving on a humanitarian service mission, I still don't really have time to review new books and write new reviews. :( Last month, I shared my thoughts on one of my favorite novels, The Negotiator and I decided I'd continue that trend.

This month's novel (another one of my all-time favorites) is Mandy by Julie Andrews Edwards. This novel was one of my favorites in junior high so from about a little less than ten years ago. Or actually, maybe it was elementary school.

I really really loved this book. Like I said, I haven't read it in ten years so I don't remember exactly what happened but I'll do my best to explain why I loved this book.

This novel is about a ten-year-old-orphan named Mandy. Mandy finds a deserted cottage and attempts to make it a home. She gets flowers for it and brooms and decorations and does her best to make her little home shine. It's a wonderful retreat from the loneliness of the orphanage.

I just loved this book so much. It was beautifully written and I loved Mandy's character so much. I must have checked out this book from the library a dozen times or so. I just loved the way Mandy found a place of her own. I think that in those early years of adolescence we all want to find a place of our own and I think that because of that I really connected with this book.

I also think that this book had a really good message and was simply beautiful. This is a book I haven't bought for myself yet, but one that I really need to remember to buy. It's one that I would love to reread. In fact, when I get back from Italy, I might just have to finally cave and buy it. I looked and there are actually a lot of copies available on Amazon.

I would totally recommend this for young teens and adults alike. I still remember this book ten years after reading it and that is saying something.

If you'd like to learn more about this book, here's the Goodreads summary and the Amazon link.

Is there a book that you've read so many times it's embarrassing? If so, what book?

Love,

Danica Page
