Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

When jaded city girl Maddy McIntyre packs up and leaves Adelaide for a new job in the country, it's not only a chance at a fresh start. Six months ago, the first guy she'd ever loved shattered her heart before moving home to Broken Hill. Deep down inside, Maddy is hoping that living in the same town will give her an opportunity to prove to Luke that she's one temptation he can't resist.

But when she arrives in Broken Hill, Luke White is not the same guy she knew in the city. And it soon seems very clear that he doesn't want her there. Although Maddy settles in quickly, excelling at work and partying with her new friends, she can't understand why Luke is remaining so distant. Particularly when all her instincts are telling her that they're meant to be together – and that he feels the same burning attraction.

As Maddy learns more about Luke's family and background, she begins to understand that his mixed messages are caused by balancing what's expected of him with what he really wants. Maddy gave Luke her heart long ago and, despite their differences, she knows she'll only ever be happy with her hot country boy. But how can she convince him that she's the risk he needs to take?

My Rating: 3.5 stars

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

An overview of the Novel: Maddy fell in love with Luke, head over heals. Normally Maddy was the type to avoid having relationships, but then Luke came along and changed all of that. They dated for a year and then he broke-up with her and left town.

Maddy is heartbroken and is determined not to let him go, so when she gets a job offer in his hometown she accepts without hesitation. But when she gets there, Luke isn't being as friendly and open as she would like.

Luke loved Maddy, but Maddy is a city girl through and through and there's no way she could ever make it on the station and he just can't walk away from his family obligations.

Soon the tension between them in undeniable, but will they be able to work through their problems and create a love that lasts.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This book sounded really intriguing and I was really excited to read yet another book about Australia. And yet for me, the book just didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Maddy and Luke had some serious communication problems. If they had just actually talked together and tried to work out some of their problems then they could have been together from the beginning. The sad thing was I wasn't even rooting for Luke and Maddy to get together towards the end. I actually liked the other guy in the series much much better.

I don't know. The book was well-written, but the characterization of Maddy and Luke was lacking. I honestly wish that they would have just actually talked to each other. They had some serious issues to talk about and yet they didn't really seem concerned about resolving them.

I honestly felt like Leesa should have started the series earlier in the relationship maybe when they were still together and cute.

However, it was a cute read. Fans of New Adult will probably enjoy this novel very much.

So why 3 stars? Lack of good characterization.

Can I read the series out of order? I did. I received this one for review, but then I actually went back to see if I had missed a lot in the first book, I didn't. The first book is about Aubrey and Hunter, so you don't miss much.

Warnings/Side-notes: Definitely not for younger teenage readers. There are many references to sex and alcohol.

The Wrap-up: I enjoyed the read, but was actually a little frustrated at the characters. An enjoyable enough read. If you like New Adult, give it a shot. It's cheap on Amazon.
