Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

Fans of Ruthie Knox, Rachel Gibson, and Molly O’Keefe will love this deeply romantic and uplifting debut novel about losing everything you thought you wanted—and getting exactly what you need.

Sophie Richards has been looking forward to a much-needed girls’ night out: a Rolling Stones concert, a few drinks, a distraction from her grueling nursing shifts in acute care. But when her best friend bails, Sophie gets stuck with a blind date.

Although Brett Nicholson may be the hottest carpenter alive, and Sophie may technically be single, she isn’t exactly on the market. Six years ago she found The One. He was everything Sophie dreamed a man could be—and then she lost him. In an instant, her whole life changed, and she forgot all about happily ever after.

But as she gets to know Brett, Sophie starts to wonder about the future for the first time. With a broken heart still clouding her mind, jumping into a new relationship feels impossible. When she’s in his arms, walking away feels even harder. Now Sophie faces an impossible choice: living in the past or choosing love in the here and now.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I have liked many books that I have given 3 stars to more than this one, but it wasn't bad enough to get a 2. It was, however, a low 3.

The novel had a lot of potential and is a debut novel so I will read more by this author, but this novel did disappoint me.

It had such great potential and had such a great plot, but the execution was lacking.

There were several moments when I wanted to whack the characters upside the head. Brett didn't seem like a very well-developed character to me. He seemed kind of one-dimensional and at times completely idiotic.

I did like the story, but it was so frustrating. It kept hovering between a 2.5 and a 3.5.

The overall plot was good though and I did enjoy the story. For a debut novel, this one was fairly good. I'll be interested in reading more from the author.

So why 3 stars? Some characters didn't seem well-developed and it just didn't hook me.

Warnings/Side-notes: For 17+.

The Wrap-up: Great potential, but a failure to execute. This novel was a quick, enjoyable read, but for me it just didn't quite live up to the hype.

Love,

Danica Page
