Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

One night they can't forget...

Tess McMann lives her life according to the secrets she's sworn to keep: the father who won't acknowledge her, the sister who doesn't know she exists, and the mother who's content playing mistress to a prominent businessman. When she meets the distractingly cute Dylan Kingsley at a prestigious summer program and falls in love, Tess allows herself to imagine a life beyond these secrets. But when summer ends, so does their relationship -- Dylan heads off to Canton College while Tess enrolls at the state university.

One love they can't ignore...

Two years later, a scholarship brings Tess to Canton and back into Dylan's life. Their attraction is as strong as ever, but Dylan has a girlfriend…who also happens to be Tess's legitimate half-sister. Tess refuses to follow in her mother's footsteps, which leaves her only one choice: break the rules she’s always followed, or allow Dylan to slip away for a second time.

...And only one chance to get things right.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

An Overview of the Novel: Tess knows the rules. No calling her dad, dad. No seeing him in public and no telling anybody the truth. She's determined not to become like her mother. So when she herself making the same mistakes as her mom, she runs. She won't become dependent on a man.

The only problem is that man shows up two years later and she still hasn't gotten over him. There are still sparks between them, but Dylan is dating someone, her half-sister. She's not willing to cross the line and become her mom but neither can she ignore her feelings. What's a girl to do?

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I was actually pleasantly surprised. I didn't really feel hooked by the synopsis, but this book was actually pretty incredible. It was extremely well-written and I adored the characters.

This book explored unique themes and had a depth to it that I really liked. Tess is a character that is easy to relate to and is likable. She's trying to find her place in messy world that she never even chose. I loved watching Tess grow and overcome the past.

This book is an incredible addition to the NA genre. It's different than most of the NA novels I've read.

If you are looking for a novel that will sweep you off your feet, explore deep themes, and leave you thoroughly entertained, then look no further than this one. A truly remarkable read.

So why 4 stars? I loved it and it stood out to me. Not quite 5 star material, but really close.

Warnings/Side-notes: As far as the new adult genre goes, this one is actually pretty clean. This one has one sexual scene but it's definitely more YA than adult. Fairly clean, would recommend for 17+.

The Wrap-up: A really good, intriguing read. Don't miss this one.

Love,

Danica Page
