Book Tour: Vivid by Andrea Murray

Fellow Page-Turners,

Today I am thrilled to be part of the blog tour for Vivid by Andrea Murray hosted by Paranormal Cravings. I received an e-book of this novel as part of the book tour provided by Paranormal Cravings. I, as a reviewer did not receive any compensation for reviewing this novel nor was I obligated to write a good review.

Author Info:

Andrea Murray has been teaching English for longer than most of her students have been alive. She lives in a very small town in Arkansas with her husband and two children. When she isn’t watching bad science fiction movies, she spends her time reading. In addition to The Vivid Trilogy, she has written Omni, a young-adult dystopian novel.

You can find Andrea on the web on Facebook, on Goodreads, or on Amazon

And now for the synopsis of this great book:

Her entire life she has feared her power and its connection to her mother’s murder.

When Vivian Cartwright was five years old, she witnessed her mother’s death. Now, sixteen-year-old Vivian only wants a normal life, hard to accomplish when you possess the power to control energy. She has kept her ability a secret from everyone except her guardian, Charlotte, who has hidden Vivian from the man responsible for her mother’s murder.

Her secret is safe until Vivian defends herself at school using her power. After this first use of her gift in many years, Vivian’s power seems to take on a mind of its own, increasing in strength and demanding to be used. This increase in power also brings dreams of her mother’s death and the mysterious man associated with it. In her desire to unlock her past, Vivian is forced to use her supernatural gift over and over. With each use, Vivian fears she is losing control and discovers her powers are growing—maybe too much—bringing her unknowingly closer to the man who murdered her mother.

Buying Info:
You can buy on Amazon or Barnes and Noble and can add it on Goodreads

And now without further ado, here are my thoughts on the novel:

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This book started out really slow for me. In the beginning it was just like many other books I'd read, and to be honest it wasn't really gripping me like I wanted it to, but then toward the end I really started to like it.

Things started picking up quickly though and in the end I enjoyed the novel.

Murray did an excellent job at world-building. I haven't read many books like this one and so that is always a plus. Any book that seems different is great in my book.

Murray also did a great job creating her characters. Vivian was one I really enjoyed along with her Aunt Charlotte. I thought some of the secondary characters were a little bit flat, but the main ones I really liked.

The writing was fairly good. I already said the beginning was slow, but other than that it was a great read.

After reading this one, I would probably pick up the second book. If you like books that are unique, that deal with high school drama, or have a suspenseful ending, then this one might be a good pick for you.

So why 3 stars? The slow start knocked this down to a 3 for me, but on the whole it was a really enjoyable read.

Warnings/Side-notes: Some very very vague references to sex.

The Wrap-up: An enjoyable novel with great characters and excellent world-building, but a slow beginning.

Love,

Danica Page
