Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

They met at the worst possible moment...or maybe it was just in time. David McClain was about to go to war and Lindsey Wood was there at his going-away party, capturing his heart when falling for a woman was the last thing on his mind. While David was serving his country, he stayed in close contact with Lindsey. But war changes a person, and when he came home very little had the same meaning that it had before – including the romance that had sustained him. Was love truly unconquerable, or would it prove to be just another battlefield casualty?

Gooseberry Island is the most nuanced, dramatic, and romantic novel yet from a writer whose ability to plumb the depths of human emotion knows few peers.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This novel was beautifully written. It is rare to read a novel that sinks into your soul as much as this one did. This novel is perfect for fans of romance. One reviewer compared it to Nicholas Sparks, and I'll say that the comparison was justified.

This novel deals with love, with loss, with grief, and with what it means to be human. The story centers on David, a soldier, and Lindsey, the woman who loves him. Lindsey and David were both strong characters and their relationship will keep you turning the pages.

The best part is that this noel is perfectly clean and suitable for almost all readers. It's rare to find such a well-written clean novel.

Manchester's writing will not disappoint and is absolutely brilliant.
So why 4 stars? A very well-written book that will entertain and uplift.

Warnings/Side-notes: It's a story about war meaning that there are some mildly violent scenes and mentions to alcohol and drugs. I would recommend this for 14+.

The Wrap-up: A very engaging, beautiful novel that romance fans will adore.

Love,

Danica Page
