Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now paired together on Yancey's search-and-rescue canine unit, they begin to put aside old arguments as they come to see each other in a different light. Then a call comes in from the Iditarod that will push them to their limits.

Kirra's uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing. Frank's daughter has been kidnapped. In order to save her, the man must use his knowledge as a mechanical engineer to do the kidnapper's bidding or she will die. Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl's life, but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.

My Rating: 4 out of 5.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

The Characters: Rafe is a character that I have loved since the beginning. I read Piper's (Rafe's sister) story and haved loved him since. Rafe used to be the outcast of the family, the one who wasn't a good person. But he's not that way anymore. He's trying to do what's right and make up for the past. I loved watching him grow throughout the series, especially in this novel. He treated Kirra so well. I loved him.

Kirra is a character that intrigued me in the previous novel and I loved getting to know her better in this one. I loved her character. She was such a strong woman, battling some serious battles, and yet she came off conquer. I wished we could have got to know more about her family and about her, but I loved what we were told.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I'm so sad that this series is over. I have loved reading about this family. Yes, the novels may have been slightly predictable, but I don't think that lessened the entertainment value of these novels.

I have loved this series and this novel was no exception. It was as fast-paced as all the previous novels have been and was beautifully written. Pettrey is an incredible writer and I loved delving into the world of Alaska.

This novel was enjoyable and stood out in my mind. It might not have been my favorite in the genre, but I did adore it.

So why 4 stars? Not quite 5 star material, but it definitely stood out. I loved the characters and the world.

Can I read the series out of order? You could. Each novel reads like a stand-alone, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Warnings/Side-notes: Some minor violence.

The Wrap-up: An enjoyable series that I'm sad to see come to a close. I can't wait to see what Pettrey comes up with next. Hopefully, she'll release a new series sooner rather than later.
