Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

Life has a way of shaping you into what it wants you to be, regardless of how much you fight it.

Brantley Prescott is damaged. Scarred by a past she can’t forget. Hiding secrets she’s terrified to share. Searching for a future she doesn’t believe she’ll ever find.

Myles Franco is alone. Burdened by mistakes he’ll never live down. Fostering a deep resentment for the opposite sex. Unleashing his wrath on any girl who gets too close.

Brantley has worked behind the bar long enough to recognize Myles for what he is—a douchebag player with nothing on his mind but keeping a steady stream of girls flowing through his bed. With his messy dark hair, sapphire blue eyes, rock-solid body, and endless tattoos he’s impossible to ignore. But that’s exactly what she plans on doing.

After just one run-in with Brantley, Myles is even more determined to stick to the rules he lives by. She’s mouthy, blunt, and doesn’t back down—no matter how hard he pushes her. She could turn out be the one temptation that drags him down the path he’s been trying to avoid. He won’t let that happen.

Both are content living behind the solid walls they’ve built around themselves. Neither is prepared for what happens when their lives collide.

My Rating: 3 stars

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

The Characters: I liked the characters, but I didn't feel as connected to them as I would have liked to. I'm not sure why, but I just felt like they could have been more developed.

However, having said that, I did really like the characters. They were both great at showing that you don't have to let your circumstances define you. They both had overcome so much and I really loved reading about them.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I can describe this book in one word--dramatic, seriously this book was like a soap opera. I wanted to scream a few times because the characters acted so stupid. Miscommunication at its finest.

Seriously, if these characters had only communicated. The book was well written and I enjoyed it. I thought the pacing was good. The book is very dramatic, so if that's not the sort of thing you like, this novel isn't for you.

The book had me frantically turning the pages because I wanted to know what was going to happen. It was an interesting read.

So why 3 stars? It was well written and I did enjoy it but it didn't stand out in any meaningful way.

Warnings/Side-notes: For older teens. The novel is for 17+. It leans more to ya than an adult novel. Several instances of strong language and sexual content.

The Wrap-up: An intriguing read. I'd be curious to see what the author comes up with next.

Love,

Danica Page
