Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

One case from her past defines homicide detective Abby Hart. With a possible serial killer stalking elderly women in Long Beach, California, Abby's best lead is Luke Murphy, an irritating private investigator who saw a suspect flee the scene of the latest homicide. When Abby discovers that the most recent victim is related to the governor, she's anxious to talk to him about a cold case that's personal to her--one Luke is interested in as well.As she learns more about the restaurant fire that took her parents' lives years ago, Abby discovers why Luke is so invested in finding the ones responsible. The more they uncover, though, the more questions they have. Can Abby find peace without having all the answers?

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

Why did I decide to turn the pages? It's Christian suspense. That's like my favorite genre ever.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I'm always leery about reading Christian romantic suspense novels because I adore them so much. That means I have high expectations, and when a book doesn't live up to those expectations, it's doubly painful.

This one started out slow, but quickly enough it captured my attention and I was racing to finish it.

Cantore did a great job of creating complex characters and combined that with great writing.

While this wasn't my favorite romantic suspense novel, I did really enjoy it and am looking forward to reading the sequel. I can't wait to see what happens next.

If you're looking for an intriguing romantic suspense more on the suspense side than the romance side than this is the novel for you.

This is a series that doesn't switch main characters for the sequel. That's always risky, but I'll admit I'm intrigued to see what happens in the next one. I think in this case it's going to work out.

Major Strengths: Strong writing and an intriguing plot.

Major Weaknesses: Just lacked that extra kick to grant it a 4 star status.

So why 3 stars? While I did enjoy it, I thought that it was a little bit predictable and it lacked that extra umph.

Warnings/Side-notes: Minor violence.

The Wrap-up: An intriguing novel that promises to be the start of a great new series.

Love,

Danica Page
