Before I get into my review, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:

After sending his army to besiege another king's capital, King David forces himself on Bathsheba, a loyal soldier's wife. When her resulting pregnancy forces the king to murder her husband and add her to his harem, Bathsheba struggles to protect her son while dealing with the effects of a dark prophecy and deadly curse on the king's household.

Combining historical facts with detailed fiction, Angela Hunt paints a realistic portrait of the beautiful woman who struggled to survive the dire results of divine judgment on a king with a divided heart.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

Why did I decide to turn the pages? I adored Esther, and was curious on her take of Bathsheba.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I'm always cautious of reading biblical historical fiction, but I enjoyed Esther so I decided to give it a go.

Hunt does a fantastic job of weaving biblical narrative with a great deal of imagination.

The story of David and Bathsheba is one that has always intrigued me. I loved how Hunt made it come to life.

All of the characters seemed much more relatable and the writing was well crafted. If you love stories of romance and intrigue, then definitely give this one a chance.

Major Strengths: Creativity and yet staying true to real account.

Major Weaknesses: Slow beginning.

So why 3 stars? An enjoyable retelling of the tale, but one that started out slow.

Can I read the series out of order? Yes, this is unrelated to the previous one.

Warnings/Side-notes: Vague sexual references and violence.

The Wrap-up: A great story that I enjoyed.

Love,

Danica Page
